Rukkattana Farm composed of five divisions is situated in Bingiriya electorate 8km from Bingiriya on Dummalasuriya road. During 1978 the land was vested with the National Livestock Development Board for management. The total extend is 384.6ha.
The soils in this region belong to Reddish Brown Earths and the soil reaction being neutral the tendency is towards slightly acidic in high rainfall areas and moderately alkaline in lower rainfall areas. The organic matter and nitrogen status varies from medium to high. These soils are very well supplied in Calcium and Magnesium and have a very good cation exchange capacity. By tropical standards these soils could be considered as having a very good chemical fertility. The depth, texture and drainage of the majority of these soils are quite satisfactory for a very wide range of crops. The consistency of these soils is such that their ready cultivation is possible only under a fairly narrow range of moisture conditions.
