Jersey
Origin
:
The Jersey breed originated from the Isle of Jersey in the English Channel.
Characteristics
:
Jerseys are smaller dairy cattle, with a coat color that ranges from light brown to almost grey, often with lighter faces and dark hooves. They are renowned for their high butterfat content in milk, making it ideal for cheese and butter production. Jersey cows are typically more adaptable to varying climates and are known for their docile temperament. They usually weigh between 400 to 500 kg (880 to 1,100 lbs).
Friesian(Holstein Friesian)
Origin
:
The Friesian, also known as the Holstein Friesian, originated in the Netherlands, particularly in the provinces of North Holland and Friesland.
Characteristics
:
Friesians are known for their high milk production and are the most common dairy breed worldwide. They have a distinctive black-and-white or red-and-white spotted pattern. Friesians are large in size, with cows weighing between 600 to 700 kg (1,300 to 1,500 lbs). They produce a large volume of milk, although the milk is relatively lower in butterfat and protein content compared to some other dairy breeds.
Sahiwal
Origin
:
The Sahiwal breed is indigenous to the Punjab region of Pakistan and India.
Characteristics
:
Sahiwal cattle are a dual-purpose breed known for both dairy and draft purposes. They are well-adapted to tropical climates and are resistant to heat and parasites, making them ideal for regions with high temperatures. Sahiwals are medium-sized with a reddish-brown coat. The breed is noted for its high milk yield and good fat content, and they also have a good capacity for beef production when crossbred. They are highly prized in tropical and subtropical areas.
Girilando
Origin
:
The Girolando is a breed of dairy cattle created by crossing Gyr cattle from India
Characteristics
:
Girolando cattle are ideal for milk production and are an adaptable breed, best suited to tropical environments. They produce high quality of milk and the milk contains average amounts of fat and protein. These cattle are more suitable for dry regions with high temperature as they are resistant to hot climate and many diseases.
